1979 - 1993 Mustang Front SLA Suspension System (Stock K-Member)

After extensive research, development and real-world testing, this front suspension system for the 1979-1993 Ford Mustang is ready! It takes Fox bodies to a whole new level. While designing this kit, RideTech set out to fix all of the limits and constraints of the ’80s Ford platform while keeping the system simple to bolt-on and tune for everyone’s performance needs. They've tested, refined, re-engineered and tested again, stopping at nothing to build a suspension system with unmatched levels of grip. It’s adjustable for both road and track, making it the perfect setup for performance-minded enthusiasts. Available with either coil-overs or Ridetech Shockwave air suspension options, the Fox body front suspension kit includes FOX Shocks, specially engineered upper and lower control arms, and new spindles. This kit will work with both stock (excluding SVO) and aftermarket K-members. They have an independent rear suspension kit in the works, so be on the lookout for it later this year. Special Notes

This bolt-in SLA (Short-Long-Arm) suspension system replaces the stock McPherson strut design with a billet aluminum upper control arm, tubular lower arm and spindles with S550 Mustang hubs. The factory strut design offers very little camber gain and poor overall geometry. This design greatly improves negative camber gain, which positions the tire perpendicular to the pavement through the corners without the need for excessive static camber and overly stiff spring rates. Caster, roll center and Ackerman angles were also optimized. Compatible with either Ridetech Coil-Overs or Shockwave air suspension (sold separately).

Features

  • Incorporates an upper control arm to induce much needed negative camber gain.
  • Caster, roll center, bumpsteer and Ackerman angles are optimized.
  • Bolt-in frame surrounds create attachment points for the upper control arms and the shocks, this keeps the load on the frame rails for maximum strength and reduced NVH.
  • Upper and lower arms feature Delrin bushings infused with Teflon to minimize stiction and eliminate the need for lubrication.
  • Spindles include Moog S550 Mustang rear hubs for maximum strength, consistent braking and reduced maintenance.
  • Lower control arm design improves tire clearance and steering angle, 30 degree’s with up to a 275mm wide tire.

Fitment

  • Fit’s Stock K-Member (except 84-86 SVO)
  • Uses S550 (15-23) or SN95 (94-04) Mustang brake systems. (Caliper brackets sold separately.)
  • 17″ minimum wheel diameter.
  • Compatible with stock and most aftermarket sway bars.

Specifications

  • Negative Camber Gain – 1.25 deg./in.
  • Positive Caster – 7-9 deg.
  • Bump steer – under .050″
  • Lowers ride height 1-2″
  • 50lbs lighter than stock suspension
  • Stock track width

Features & Benefits

  • Camber gain of more than 1 degree / inch of travel, which keeps the tire planted. No need for excessive static camber settings.
  • Achieves excellent grip with a ride quality friendly spring rate. No need to run ultra-stiff springs.
  • Eliminates noises in strut tower, which is common to strut tower-mounted coil-over systems
  • Increased steering angle and/or wheel backspacing made possible by the geometry of the lower control arm (the frame rail becomes the limiting factor).
  • Increased caster angle (7 degrees or more is possible), which improves steering feel.
  • Direct bolt on 15-22 S550 Mustang brakes and wheel hubs
  • Works with all SN95 brakes
  • Minimum wheel size 17”
  • Can be used with stock K-member (excluding SVO) or a wide variety of aftermarket K-members, including Maximum Motorsports, Team Z, AJE and UPR
  • Utilizes stock steering rack
  • Retains track width of factory control arms
  • 275 tire is possible, but will limit how low you can run the car due to interference with the fender.
  • 50lbs lighter than stock suspension
